1.I felt my speeches went especially well at Surf City. In my first speech I used an interesting hook that grabbed the attention of both the committee and my chairs. In my second speech I did not use a hook, but instead presented very viable solutions. I also felt my comments went well because I was able to point out flaws in other people’s solutions.
2.One challenge I faced was trying to incorporate my solutions into the resolutions. I came up with many solutions before the conference, but during caucusing it was difficult to use them because so many people were trying to talk. I was not able to become the leader of my caucus group because of this. Another challenge I faced was how I was on the bottom of the speaker’s list for the second topic. When it finally became my turn to speak, we were in a moderated caucus down the speaker’s list and I only had one minute to speak.
3.I liked how there were many juniors and seniors in our committees. This gave me a chance to observe some very good speakers.
4.I learned that hook speeches are very beneficial because it gives you a lasting impact on the chair and the committee. For Los Al and WCIMUN, I will present many solutions in my speeches while keeping the committee’s attention. I also learned that it is helpful to learn about other resolutions before formal caucus so I can prepare better questions. At Los Al and WCIMUN, I will try to get our resolution done first so I can ask others about theirs while they are still working on it.
